MFA Visual Narrative
Sheep Oil Salesman
At a town fair, a greedy, charismatic salesman named Miles sells sheep oil from his mobile cart. He targets customers with various conditions and lies about the oil’s effectiveness, changing the label on the bottle to market to each customer. As greed overcomes him, he invokes the ire of the misled townsfolk, and a mysterious obelisk in town lights up. Each lie drags him down to a new level of wickedness.

This was a collaborative video done with my classmates. I built the mini diarama set by designing the stalls and cart in Adobe Illustrator, then laser-cutting wood and assembling the pieces. We then took photos of the background and my teammates drew digitally on top of it. I edited it all together and added sound.
The cart design was my proudest achievement in this project. I wanted the curved handles to reflect the character's mustache.

Picture Not Taken
This project challenged me to recreate a photo I wish I had taken. I chose a moment when, on a special trip to Yellowstone with my grandparents at 8 years old, I witnessed a wolf cross the street unseen by the voyeurs with high tech binoculars. I hand painted the papers and collaged them with found images.

Frog & Crab
For Riso class, I created a small story zine of a curious origami frog and a stubborn origami crab. I paired it with a poster print of geometric origami instructions I created in illustrator.

Text as Image/ Image as Text

I was tasked with writing a short story and depicting that story in text only and image only versions. I decided to create a fake travel Instagram for a lanternfly named Larry as he travels to NYC.

I used Procreate for the illustration, Illustrator for text layout, and Figma for the Instagram portal to create this project. With more time, I would like to make a "reel" with animated text in After Effects.

I then brought the two together in a tiny risoprinted booklet for my final. It only measured 3 x 2.5 inches, so it can serve as a warning to any invasive bugs planning on visiting NYC.
